Newness Challenge 1: Polenta Pizza
I was given the book Clean Start and vowed with my husband to make every recipe in the book— I am after all on the war path to make our household a clean eating home - thank you Terry! I won’t bore you with the details of every recipe challenge (after all didn’t we all watch that happen in Julie & Julia) but I will report on the first challenge of making Polenta Pizza. I really took this on because I don’t like pizza (I don’t eat dairy or meat) and my husband could probably eat it every day (is that from growing up in NY, or being lazy?! comments welcome!) Anyway, the challenge was in the crust which actually can be prepared days in advance of eatin. I’m never one for letting food sit around, but this is polenta we’re talking about and if you don’t have an agenda for a chilly afternoon waiting for it to cool, harden and crisp-up could work, but for those who pack their schedules, I would suggest an early prep. The key is to getting the thickness just right and I definitely didn’t score a home-run in this department. But three times a charm, right? And the other elements were so fun and easy, I am certainly up for the challenge. Anyway, I made the walnut pesto for a spread rather than a traditional tomato and just loved it. It wasn’t heavy at all, or too flavorful and so easy to do with the Cuisinart (b.w.g.e = best wedding gift ever). On top of the pesto went a sautee of red onion and swiss chard with garlic - the perfect topping. This meal left us feeling full and satisfied, and better than we would from pizza!

2011 has brought a slew of new things my way thus far. February bringing the biggest of all when after 30 years of being me, I was pushed (lovingly) into retirement as I took on the role of wife. But all this newness really began with my new bob. Inspired by Arizona Muse and with the help of a very steady hand with a strong scissor (provided by Pascual) off my hair went and with it came a whole lot of newness. Not wanting the trend to stop there, I’ve decided to continue to take on new things. I’ll start off with one thing per week and see how that goes. But for now check out Arizona in all her greatness in the new YSL campaign.
